SURABAYA, October 18, 2024. During the East Java Provincial Peak Commemoration of World Mental Health Day (HKJS) on Friday (18/10), PT Bank Pembangunan Daerah Jawa Timur Tbk (bankjatim) was honored with an award for its significant support in enhancing mental health services through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Held at the Graha Menur Building in Surabaya, the award was presented by the Acting Chairperson of the East Java PKK Provincial Driving Team, Isye Adhy Karyono, and received by bankjatim’s Compliance Director, Umi Rodiyah.

Umi explained that through various programs focused on community empowerment—particularly in healthcare—bankjatim has successfully fostered tangible positive change, specifically in supporting the acceleration of regional economic growth. “We express our deepest gratitude for this prestigious recognition. This appreciation from the East Java Provincial Government is a concrete manifestation of bankjatim’s commitment to supporting the highest standards of healthcare for the community. Throughout 2024, we have extensively distributed CSR across various regions in East Java as part of our commitment to playing an active role in regional development, especially within the healthcare sector,” she explained.

bankjatim’s healthcare-related CSR activities have been substantial, including the donation of ambulances, medical equipment, stunting reduction initiatives, and various other programs. These initiatives align with the company’s commitment to strengthening Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. As a Regionally Owned Enterprise (BUMD), bankjatim holds a profound responsibility toward sustainable development in East Java and Indonesia. “We hope that the healthcare CSR activities conducted by bankjatim will continue to enhance the welfare and quality of life for the people of East Java,” she emphasized.

Isye added that the theme for this year's HKJS commemoration is "It is Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace." This theme serves as a reminder of the critical importance of mental health awareness across all sectors, particularly for the workforce. Data from the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI) indicates that 1.2% of private-sector employees and 0.7% of civil servants (PNS), military/police (TNI/Polri), and SOE/ROE (BUMN/BUMD) employees in Indonesia experience mental health issues. Consequently, she stressed the importance of creating supportive workplace environments. "Organizations must be capable of implementing mental-health-friendly policies, providing mental health training, and offering mental health first aid for families and colleagues in need," she added.

Through this event, Isye expressed her hope for increased public awareness regarding the importance of mental health. Furthermore, she urged the public to eliminate the negative stigma associated with visiting psychiatric hospitals. “Public education is vital to ensure that seeking professional help is no longer considered taboo or carries a negative stigma. For instance, a visit to a psychiatric hospital should not label someone as 'insane.' There are various conditions such as stress, depression, or daily life pressures that require professional intervention,” she concluded.
