SURABAYA, September 24, 2024. PT Bank Pembangunan Daerah Jawa Timur Tbk (bankjatim) continues to show its commitment to supporting the programs of the East Java Provincial Government. One such effort is through the 2024 Job Fair, held under the theme “Freedom to Build a Career, Encouraging Inclusive and Worker-Friendly Investment in East Java.” The event took place at Grand City Surabaya and was officially opened by the Acting Regional Secretary of East Java Province, Bobby Soemiarsono, the Head of the East Java Department of Manpower and Transmigration, Sigit Priyanto, and the President Director of bankjatim, Busrul Iman, on Tuesday (September 24). The 2024 Job Fair is part of a series of activities to commemorate East Java Province’s 79th Anniversary.
Busrul explained that as a region-owned enterprise (BUMD) of East Java, the company is committed to continuing its collaboration with the Provincial Government to improve the welfare of the community, one of which is through job creation. “We are truly grateful that bankjatim has been given the opportunity to participate in the 2024 Job Fair. At the event, we also opened a booth providing information services related to our HR needs. The involvement of the younger generation is crucial in driving innovation and company growth. We hope their involvement will bring fresh ideas, utilize the latest technologies, and encourage digital transformation within bankjatim,” he said.
According to Busrul, the two-day Job Fair from September 24–25, 2024, plays an important role in absorbing the workforce and reducing the unemployment rate in East Java. He noted that open unemployment remains a classic issue in the labor sector today. Several factors contribute to the gap between job seekers and job opportunities, such as a mismatch between job requirements and job seeker qualifications, as well as ineffective dissemination of job vacancy information (mislink).
“That’s why Job Fairs like this are crucial in advancing businesses in East Java, improving the overall economy, and—most importantly—helping to reduce the social inequality caused by the lack of job opportunities,” Busrul emphasized.
Bobby Soemiarsono added that this year’s Job Fair featured a total of 80 booths, including 68 companies (private sector, state-owned enterprises, and region-owned enterprises) and 12 partners of the East Java Department of Manpower and Transmigration (including entrepreneurs with disabilities, vocational training centers, and other partners). Additionally, 9 companies offered online job openings. In total, there were 4,501 job vacancies available to job seekers. “What’s interesting is that this Job Fair also marked the soft launch of the Jatim BISSA platform (Empowered Disability Database). Jatim BISSA is an expansion of the services from the Disability Service Unit (ULD) under the East Java Department of Manpower,” he explained.
Jatim BISSA was developed to improve services for the disabled workforce by providing a comprehensive database of disabled job seekers (supply side), which can be utilized by employers or other parties needing workers with disabilities. It also facilitates access to up-to-date and quality job opportunities for workers with disabilities (demand side), among other features.
On the same occasion, Sigit Priyanto stated that the East Java Provincial Government did not act alone in this initiative. Instead, it adopted a concept of synergy and collaboration with stakeholders to educate and publicize high-quality job opportunities to the public, help match potential candidates with companies to accelerate recruitment, and foster partnerships to open broader career options and enhance skill development for job seekers.
