SURABAYA, August 17, 2024 – The 79th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) and the 63rd Anniversary of PT Bank Pembangunan Daerah Jawa Timur Tbk (bankjatim) were celebrated with great enthusiasm. The event began with a flag-raising ceremony at the bankjatim Head Office, led by the President Director of bankjatim, Busrul Iman. All Jatimers, including the board of directors, SEVP, VP, AVP, and staff, participated in the ceremony with great respect. Unlike previous years, this year's celebration featured the "Jatimers Defile 2024."
The Jatimers Defile is a fashion show featuring regional traditional attire, with participation from the directors, SEVP, VP, and staff of bankjatim. They were challenged to walk confidently on the runway, showcasing the beauty and uniqueness of traditional clothing from various provinces across Indonesia. “The traditional outfits from Sabang to Merauke worn by all participants reflect the rich cultural heritage of our homeland, which, despite its diversity, remains united and welcomes a new Nusantara. We must all stand together to unite the spirit and goals of the entire Indonesian nation,” said Busrul.
Both the participants and the audience of Jatimers Defile 2024 were enthusiastic and united in making the event a success. Everyone enjoyed the fashion pieces on display. Busrul hoped that the event would encourage all bankjatim employees to appreciate and commit to preserving the traditional clothing culture of Indonesia from various regions.
According to Busrul, the commemoration of Indonesia's independence day also serves as a moment to reflect on the noble values that have shaped the nation. “We hope that this 79th anniversary of Indonesia’s independence will inspire the Indonesian people to continue advancing the nation through hard work, innovation, and collaboration with various parties. Various challenges and threats will always exist, but we must remain confident that with the unity of the nation, everything can be overcome,” he emphasized.
In line with the theme of the 79th Independence Day, "Nusantara Baru Indonesia Maju," BJTM also wants to demonstrate its commitment to supporting Indonesia's progress through collaboration and unity. Bankjatim continues to cooperate with all stakeholders to strengthen the integrity of the financial services sector amidst the challenges being faced. All of this is done to ensure the competitiveness of the financial services sector and its optimal role in driving sustainable economic growth, ultimately realizing an advanced Indonesia.
Not only on August 17, but earlier, BJTM also held various competitions to celebrate and honor the nation’s struggle and enliven the bankjatim anniversary. The participants in the competitions were all bankjatim employees. Many competitions were held, such as relay races, dim sum feeding, raffia cup lifting, and various sports competitions.
“This anniversary is also celebrated by bankjatim through community support, including the distribution of basic food packages to local residents and visits to orphanages and nursing homes. Through this program, we want to foster a spirit of humanity reflected in every celebration of Indonesia’s independence day,” explained Busrul.
He also hoped that on bankjatim's 63rd anniversary, all Jatimers would continue to give their best for the company, maintain its financial performance, and drive BJTM's ongoing transformation. "At 63 years old, bankjatim has great hopes of continuing to grow and develop into a better bank. As a regional development bank (BPD), bankjatim's hopes extend beyond financial performance improvements but also toward greater contributions to the development of East Java," he stressed.
As a regional development bank established in 1961, BJTM has played an active role in driving economic growth in East Java. With an extensive network and various innovative banking products and services, bankjatim has positioned itself as a strategic partner for the community, SMEs, and regional governments. Looking ahead, bankjatim has a vision to become the number one BPD in Indonesia. “We want to become a BPD that makes a significant contribution to regional economic growth sustainably and a BPD with competitive advantages that can compete in the domestic banking industry,” he continued.
The success of bankjatim in pursuing its vision to become the number one BPD in Indonesia can be seen from several aspects. For instance, the company's assets have consistently grown, and bankjatim has continued to develop innovative banking products and services, especially in digital banking through innovations like JConnect. All of this is aimed at improving service quality and providing convenience to customers.
In order to compete with other banks, especially digital banks, bankjatim is currently undergoing a transformation, with one of its five transformation pillars being IT and digital transformation. This transformation starts with the development of its structure by separating the IT and Digital Banking divisions so that bankjatim can focus more on digital transformation development. Regarding credit application processes, bankjatim has also introduced easy online applications such as E-KMG and E-Loan.
In terms of collaboration, BJTM has fully supported local governments, particularly in managing integrated regional finances based on digital platforms such as the EKPD, SIPD, KKI, electronic hospital finance systems, and many others. Bankjatim’s collaboration and synergy with local governments are among its competitive advantages over other banks, enabling bankjatim to remain competitive and a market leader in its sector.
As of the first half of 2024, BJTM reported revenue of IDR 4.2 trillion and net profit of IDR 579 billion by the end of June 2024. One of the business lines contributing significantly to bankjatim's performance is credit distribution. Currently, bankjatim’s credit distribution is dominated by productive credit to SMEs, which reached IDR 18.87 trillion by the first half of 2024.
Busrul hopes that bankjatim's performance will continue to grow and transform into a digital bank with highly competitive human resources, bringing BJTM closer to its vision of becoming the number one BPD in Indonesia. With the spirit of "Get Better Future" on its 63rd anniversary, Busrul concluded, “Bankjatim is here to provide the right financial solutions and ensure that customers can achieve their goals with confidence and security. We are always ready to deliver the best service, supported by professionalism and integrity.”
