KEDIRI, October 16, 2024 – As part of its efforts to enhance and expand digital banking networks, PT Bank Pembangunan Daerah Jawa Timur Tbk (bankjatim), through its Kediri Sharia Branch, has launched a digital product at Lirboyo Islamic Boarding School (Ponpes Lirboyo) in Kediri. The event, held at the Muktamar Hall Lobby of the boarding school on Wednesday (October 16), was attended by Bankjatim Director of Operations Arif Suhirman and Chairman of Ponpes Lirboyo KH. HM Adibussoleh.
Arif explained that bankjatim, as the people's bank of East Java, is not solely focused on growing its business but also on delivering value that benefits the wider community.
“As we are doing today, bankjatim Syariah Kediri is collaborating with Ponpes Lirboyo by providing assistance in the form of 40 Electronic Data Capture (EDC) machines,” he stated.
This support is intended to assist in the digitalization initiative using student cards for financial transactions, and to serve as a learning tool through the “Sangu Lirboyo” digital product.
The student card will also function as a payment method for all transactions within the boarding school and as an attendance card. With this system, students won’t have to worry about losing money, and the school administrators will find it easier to manage school finances as everything will be digitized. The cards are planned to be issued to 5,000 students.
As for the EDC machines, they will be operated by stores affiliated with Ponpes Lirboyo. A total of 40 stores will partner with bankjatim Syariah Kediri.
“Considering the high demand for accessible banking services at Ponpes Lirboyo, which is also our responsibility, we are also signing a cooperation agreement (PKS) for financial services via virtual accounts (VA), with hopes this will be the beginning of ongoing synergy between Bank Jatim Syariah Kediri and Ponpes Lirboyo in digitalizing finance,” Arif emphasized.
These virtual accounts will serve as an alternative to bank accounts for students who receive the facility.
Arif noted that in today’s era, adopting digitalization in banking operations is crucial, as it helps reduce economic inequality by expanding access to financial services.
“Through digitalization, bankjatim can reach unbanked communities—those who have not yet accessed banking services. This also helps improve the welfare of the people in East Java,” he added.
Meanwhile, KH. HM Adibussoleh shared that Ponpes Lirboyo currently has 39,534 students across its 19-hectare campus. He expressed his deepest appreciation to bankjatim for the continued synergy.
“Fundamentally, Ponpes Lirboyo is committed to continuously improving the quality of its services—both in administration and financial management. One way we do this is by establishing partnerships with external institutions, including bankjatim. With this student card, we hope students will become more financially responsible and, God willing, avoid the risks of cash-based transactions,” he concluded.
